GOVERNANCE |
The Governing Body is the Board of
Directors, which consists of the President, Vice President,
Secretary, Treasurer and five senior Pharmacist Peer Monitors. The
service provided by the Board of Directors is done on a volunteer
basis. S.A.R.P.H. also utilizes the services of other
volunteer peer monitors located geographically across the
Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. These volunteer monitors have a vote
in the composition of the Board of Directors.

ROLE OF
PRESIDENT |
The President
provides leadership and has decision making authority for
S.A.R.P.H. The duties of the President include:

Updating the
requirements for implementation of the program
·
Acting as a liaison to
the Board of Pharmacy in Pennsylvania and New Jersey and
Pennsylvania’s Professional Health Monitoring Program (PHMP)
·
The President is a
signatory on the treatment/monitoring contract for pharmacists or
pharmacy students
·Conducting
the Board of Directors meetings and other business for the
S.A.R.P.H.program

ROLE OF
DIRECTOR |
Facilitating
the day to day operations and administration of the S.A.R.P.H.
Program. Full time paid position. |

ROLE OF
MONITOR |
The peer
monitors voluntarily act as colleague support persons for
participants under the monitoring contract. Each monitor continues
to have active contact until the participant completes the
program. Program participants may be considered foreligibility
as peer monitors after having satisfactorily completed the
S.A.R.P.H. program.

TRAINING
PROVIDED |
Attendance at
the University of Utah School on Alcoholism and Other Drug
Dependencies; C.E. programs on addictions. Director has a minimum of
five years experience in chemical dependency treatment and
certification in addictions counseling. Experience in psychiatric
treatment preferred.

RELATIONSHIP WITH BOARD OF PHARMACY |
Our
State Board is supportive of our program. S.A.R.P.H.
signed a
Memorandum of Understanding with the Board of
Pharmacy,
granting us the privilege of being the officially recognized program
for pharmacists and pharmacy students licensed in the Commonwealth
of Pennsylvania. The Board will refer cases to us for enrollment.
If there are no criminal convictions against the “Federal Controlled
Substance Act or the Pharmacy Act, the Board will not generate a
public record of the proceedings and will ultimately dismiss the
case after the participant satisfactorily completes the S.A.R.P.H.
program. The Pa. State Board of Pharmacy provides S.A.R.P.H.
with a partial funding grant.

MONITORING |
A
standardized contract with a three-year term is utilized.Random
Observed Body Screens are used to determine if abstinence is being
maintained. (We may require urine, serum, blood, saliva,
perspiration or hair testing in fulfillment of this requirement.)

STATISTICS |
Since its
inception in 1984 through December 2006, over 590 participants have
enrolled in the program. Eighty Five % of our participants have
satisfactorily completed. 158 participants are currently being
monitored, 93% are in full compliance without any contract
violations
